the Wednesday Connection
The Wednesday Connection is a collection of fellowship and spiritual programs set up for Wednesday evenings. Designed to be a spiritual pick-me-up for the midweek slump, the evening features activities for all ages and interests. Be sure to sign up online using the form below, or call the church office at 636.394.7506 no later than Monday morning prior to the dinner. Special Lenten Class
A Thinking Person's Guide to Prayer by Rev. Carl Schenck
Begins at 6:30 p.m.
Most of us pray at some time or another, but most people are uncertain and hesitant about their prayer life. Many have not developed a regular and rewarding life of prayer. Often the way we pray is not consistent with the way we believe God works in our lives or in the world.
The purpose of this class is to help each participant develop an approach to prayer that is consistent with our view of God, rewarding and disciplined in practice and filled with hope for the ways prayer can change our lives and world.
Following is the schedule of classes and summaries.
February 24
Intro to course. What prayer is not. The problem with the vending machine God. Prayer as a relationship.
March 3
Prayer as beginning with honesty. Dealing with anger, guilt, hurt, etc. in prayer as well as positive emotions/people and causes.
March 10
Prayer as thanks and praise. Fasting from asking for things. Ways of giving thanks/praise. Listening as well as talking in prayer. How do we know it is God speaking?
March 17
Specific practices to build the discipline of prayer. Time, place, posture, use of model prayers, prayer partners, etc.
March 21
The importance of standing in a theological tradition while praying. Not letting prayer become individualistic and “new age.”
March 28
How, exactly, does prayer change things? Changes us. Changes reality.
