Sharing God's Word through creative drama

ACtS OF FAITH
MUMC’s DRAMA MINISTRY TEAM

MISSION STATEMENT

Following the example of Jesus Christ, Who used parables to teach others, the mission of MUMC’s Drama Ministry Team is to open the hearts and minds of those we serve through the use of dramatic arts, so that they might hear, understand and personally identify with the Word of God.

MUMC’s Drama Ministry Team is open to all people 9th grade* and older with an interest in theatre.

Enthusiasm is required; experience is not!

Drama Team members act in sketches for worship & special events, as well as other productions, and also work behind the scenes on productions.

Monthly meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month from 7:00-8:30 pm in Room 141.  We gather for refreshments, devotions, acting games, script reading and FUN!

All are welcome to join at any time!

*We are currently hoping to form a 6th-8th grade Drama Team that can meet on their own and possibly join this group from time to time.  If you have an interest in helping to lead this ministry, please contact Lori!  Training will be provided!

NEWS and NOTICES

Open to High School and older, our January meetings will be a two-part special interest workshop on WRITING DRAMA FOR THE CHURCH, led by our resident writer, Deb Garwood, on Friday, Jan. 25 & Friday, Feb. 8 from 7:00-8:30 pm.

Deb is a member of our Drama Team who has an extensive background in writing in various genres, and in writing scripts for churches specifically.
She has graciously agreed to share her expertise with those of us who have an interest in exploring or developing our skills in this area.

NO EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY – this will be an introductory, hands-on look at how scripts are developed from start to finish.

If you would like to attend this workshop, please RSVP to Deb at writethiswaydeb@charter.net or 314-518-9547 so she has an idea of how many to plan for – and feel free to ask her any questions you may have.

Attached is a basic outline for the class that Deb has provided to give us a little bit of an idea of what we’ll be doing.

I hope many of you will be able to take advantage of this awesome opportunity!  Thanks, Deb, for sharing your gifts with us!

SPECIAL WORKSHOP

FRIDAY, January 25 & FRIDAY, February 8, 2008

7:00-8:30 pm

FIRESIDE ROOM (Small room adjacent to sanctuary opposite Cry Room)

Writing Drama for the Church

Welcome!

For this first workshop, there’s a bit of homework. Don’t panic…there’s no grading.

Over the next weeks, try to be more aware of everyday situations and write down any potential sources of conflict.

For example, over the holidays one may have noticed the following situations:

-          personalities that clashed at the dinner table

-          a mad search for the perfect present

-          a missed flight

-          an overcooked ham

-          a missing baby Jesus

-          disappointment

-          a lost ornament

-          an unexpected proposal

-          being stranded in a snowstorm

When we meet, be prepared to share your non-holiday situations as we discuss two key elements of drama…conflict and goals.

I’m looking forward to writing with you!
